The Web Development Process
In any web project, there are two main processes - the client's process and the developer's process. Some
companies have advanced knowledge and experience in strategic planning for the web. They typically formulate a
well thought out Request for Proposal, and seek a development company to fulfill their goals and objectives.
Other companies find it more difficult to define "the what" and "the how" of web projects, although their
reasons for seeking a web solution are compelling.
Your Process
At Nauticom, we work with all kinds of companies at a variety of stages and levels of planning for their web
applications. No matter whether you have a sophisticated RFP or whether you need assistance working through
some important questions, we give each client individualized attention. We believe each project and each
company is unique and deserves a customized approach to achieving their internet goals.
We'll help you with:
- Knowing when, why and how to take your web site to the next level
- Developing a strategic web plan
- Determining your Return on Investment opportunities
- Developing a plan for maintaining your site
- Understanding the needs and interests of your target users
- Asking good questions for the long term future of your web efforts
Our 5-Step Process
Nauticom's web team is committed to a 5-step process designed to provide end-to-end solutions for your web
applications.
-
Definition - We start by defining your goals, needs and objectives based on the information you provide to us.
We employ the LIST approach to help define the task at hand.
-
Listen - Our first goal is to listen to your concerns, frustrations,
goals and objectives in order to understand both your current and desired situations.
-
Inquire - Next, we inquire by asking good questions. In order to get
the right solution, we have to ask the right questions. Asking good questions is one of the keys to
success in any web project.
-
Suggest - Our next task is to suggest a tentative menu of ideas that
provide the right solutions for you and your customers.
-
Target - Finally, we specify a focused solution that targets your
concerns as a company and the needs and interests of your customers and web user groups. The final
result is a LIST of ideas that specifically moves you forward in your web development process.
-
Discovery - Nauticom formally begins the project with a discovery phase aimed at developing a comprehensive view of
the goals, strategies, and methodologies of the site development process for your company. We work with you to
review the marketing goals, strategic objectives, design requirements, user requirements, and the scope of the site's
content and functionality.
-
Design - Our primary objective is Web site design efficiency. It is vital that the site provide an optimum user
experience with each visit. We aim to design a site in which information must be easily accessed, visitors must
be able to move around in the site, and site usability must have the highest priority. Your target audience will
experience a site that downloads fast, readily translates across various browser software, and functions smoothly.
Our design process will carefully consider both the user's experience and the company's objectives. The design phase
incorporates both information design and creative graphical design.
-
Development - Upon final approval of the graphic design and navigational layout, the site will be prepared for
content insertion and programming. Based on requirements developed during the Discovery and Design phases, Nauticom
will program the application to achieve the intended functionality. Front-end web programming and back-end database
programming will take place as necessary at this stage. Appropriate programming will be selected to fit the
functionality of the site.
-
Deployment - All Nauticom Web sites are subject to rigid quality control measures, usability testing methodologies,
and focus group analysis as necessary so that the final site is optimized for customer usability and response.
Quality Assurance testing will be performed on multiple platforms and multiple browsers.
